Motion
"My inspirations started with old 1991 rave tapes. Being absorbed by the sounds of old skool, jungle and techno prompted me into buying a pair of Technics and to start mixing. I started mixing at the age of 15, and during the next few years, I moved on from old skool and was mixing a more hard, progressive techno sound, but then I got bored of the same 4/4 kick patterns and turned my interests towards drum and bass. By this time, my mixing was good and I was being asked to play in clubs and at free parties"
It was Motion's interest in how the tracks were being produced, that was growing all along, as he was show around some studios and from here, he took it upon himself to get some equipment and start learning. First up was a basic midi setup with an Atari ST, Cubase and a Roland Groovebox. This taught him the basics of using a sequencer and he started to write music. After a while he was getting frustrated with the limits imposed on him by the equipment, so he sought to upgrade his setup.
It got to a point where he had 4-5 tunes completed and hapy with, and decided to mail out a CD to some record labels. A few days later, J Majik called wanting two tunes for his Infrared imprint. This encouraged Motion to write more music and to DJ more. Over the next few years, he continued writing tunes, watching and hearing the Drum & Bass scene evolve and seeing different trends come and go, but still focusing on writing what he wanted to do.
In early 2005, he got in touch with ASC, through a mutual friend, and the the pair seemed to be into what they heard from each other. ASC then signed Motion's tune "Mescaline", for his label Covert Operations, and the two then started to collaborate on material together. Two tunes were crafted in late 2005 and were getting much acclaim from the scene, as they were a fusion of both of their styles, that seemed to work so well. Look out for lots of new Motion material as he joins the ranks of Covert Operations.
