Third Rail
The Rail started producing music back in the 80's while still at school, writing hiphop and used to be both MC and a scratch DJ for a crew of 2 called UBC. He inspired to find out how people like Mantronix were getting their sound, not the usual scratching, but the sampling of beats and ediits during the final tracks. It was hard back then to create the same sound without being in a professional studio as software was scarce, but eventually after buying an Amiga 500 and a sampling program, he discovered how to make 100% sample based tracks.
This was heading into the nineties when hardcore was all about sampling...this is when he met Blame. At college, the 2 would get together and talk music and in a few years to come would end up being good mates and eventually working with each other.
'Blame helped me get some proper gear together, like which sampler and software to use etc. He helped me out big time with what would and wouldn't work technically, even back then when sound quality wasn't as important as it is today, he already had some of the best production techniques.' After a couple of months, Silent Hill was the first dub to be dropped by Blame and was closely followed by Titan 2070 and Six Rooms.
Breakbeat Science stepped up when Space Cameras came out and released this along with Spirit Combat but it was the only official Third Rail release to happen for a few years. Covert Ops then took a chance on the Star Wars sampled filled Apprentice trilogy and released the amens that were created as a battle piece for Blame's 'Sith' tune.
There has been a long break away from the scene for the Rail for various life reasons, including the all too familiar 'lost all my samples in a hard drive incident' - eh James!! Now though, a new lease of lust for the scene has got him back in the lab. With solo work underway and collaborations with ASC as well as a few tracks made with Alphatrion and T-ZO from The Dark Judgez (a crew created to bring various styles for a common cause), The Rail will be back, electrifying dancefloors soon.
